The issue.
In many corporate environments, information can be located in different systems, technical environments and data stores. It may also be managed within a number of business processes and it may be of interest to a range of users for various reasons. Rarely do users have one place to go to where they can find all the information they need.
The solution.
A dbCrawler solution allows users to leverage the functionality of a search engine to access any data resident in a SQL 92 compliant database. DbCrawler has been designed to make sense of disparate data and then provide a consolidated view of all information as part of a single window interface.
As part of a complete dbCrawler implementation, we work with our clients to define exactly what information is needed and determine how data elements relate to each other. Once these relationships are defined, dbCrawler can be used to publish XML files by extracting data on a scheduled basis. After a search engine is configured, it is used to search and reference the XML files created by dbCrawler and other corporate data that may be applicable. Using the search engine results, data is combined with an XSL style sheet to format and display it as part a browser-based interface. In some cases, the XSL style sheet can be used to launch other applications using key IDs and pre-populate required data elements.
